Work International

The Expat life

Cross-continental careers at KSBE: Where work meets world!

Working in Belgium typically involves a role at our Willebroek office, where employees might need to travel occasionally or even frequently. However, international work at Keppel Seghers Belgium (KSBE) is a whole different ball game.
At KSBE, you have the chance to embark on short or longer-term missions (lasting up to 3 months) or even relocate to a project site for its entire duration. This could mean being on-site for 3 years or more, depending on how long the construction phase lasts. If you’re on a long-term project, you’ll be working as an Expatriate (Expat). Now, let’s get down to the nitty-gritty.

Questions? Answered!

Can I jump straight into working internationally?

Yes, but it depends on the role. We typically envision a 6-month training period at our Willebroek office in Belgium. This is your chance for a meet-and-greet and to deep dive into all our departments and WtE expertise. After these first 6 months, we’ll gear you up for your site mobilisation. You’ll have already visited the site several times before your long-term deployment.

What about my family?

Your family can join you. We take care of the full mobilisation, administration, and local integration to get you settled in no time.

I have children. What about their schooling?

For our expat employees with kids, we arrange and cover schooling fees for international schools. We handle each case individually, as the situation in Singapore differs from Hong Kong, Vietnam, Australia, or even France.

What happens when the international project wraps up?

A few scenarios might play out. You could return to Belgium to gear up for the next project, or you might be mobilised to another project. Since we’re a global operation, there’s no guarantee your next project will be in the same region. If you do return to our Willebroek office, check out the “Work in Belgium page” for more info on your options.

What does Keppel Seghers Belgium look for in an international expat role?

It really hinges on the specific position. We’re mainly on the lookout for candidates with the right experience who can quickly adapt and integrate into our operational setup. The focus for international long-term assignments is usually on Project Management, Site Management, and Commissioning Management. Sometimes, other colleagues are called to join the projects for periods of 3 months or more, not exactly as an expat, but more so for a long mission. Alongside relevant knowledge and international experience, we’re scouting for a cultural fit. We want our future colleagues to have an open mindset in line with our company customs. Accountability, Client-oriented, and Transparency are the key values we screen for.
If you’ve got more questions, which you likely will, don’t hesitate to reach out via our contact page. We’ll get back to you to zoom in on your specific situation.
