Meet Steven Tipler, a driven French energy engineer with an insatiable appetite for technical challenges. After completing his studies at the University of Knotts, Steven continued his academic pursuits with a Ph.D. in combustion at the prestigious University of Brussels in Belgium. During his time in Brussels, Steven’s passion for the environment led him to discover Keppel Seghers Belgium, a company renowned for its innovative solutions in the field of waste-to-energy. Intrigued by the company’s mission and vision, Steven eagerly applied to join their team of process engineers. After the fast-paced selection process, Steven was thrilled to join the ranks of the Keppel Seghers Belgium team on November 22, 2021.
KSBE: What’s interesting about your role as a Process Engineer?
“Daily technical challenges, room for improvement, and meaningful connections with coworkers are just a few of the reasons that make my job exceptional. At the end of each day, I can reflect on my progress and feel proud of what I’ve accomplished. There’s simply nothing quite like it—a satisfying and fulfilling feeling. Learning something new not only helps you develop yourself but also provides you with fresh, exciting challenges every day. Knowing that what I do has a direct and positive effect on others is an incredibly satisfying feeling. It’s a source of motivation and pride that keeps me excited about my job, day in and day out.”
KSBE: At what level do you think your role makes a difference for the company?
“My role is incredibly fulfilling, as it allows me to make an impact on multiple levels. As a Process Engineer, I’m able to use my expertise to design and develop innovative solutions. Not only that, I also collaborate with other departments to ensure that we’re all working towards a common goal. Moreover, I can also contribute to improving the company as a whole, whether it’s through taking on new challenges, sharing ideas, or finding ways to streamline processes. The opportunity to make a positive impact on different levels is one of the many reasons why I love what I do.”
KSBE: How are you seeing the world compared to before because of working at Keppel Seghers Belgium?
“Working at Keppel Seghers Belgium has changed the way I view the world. My perspective on sustainability and waste management has changed significantly because of the knowledge I’ve acquired. The company’s dedication to environmental issues goes far beyond the immediate future. It also focuses on having a positive impact on the climate for coming generations. It struck a deep chord with me and motivated me to be more mindful of how I handle waste. It has changed everything, not just for me but also for other people who are also committed to making a positive impact on our planet.”
KSBE: How would you describe your initial experience working with the process engineering team?
“Everybody made me feel welcome as soon as I joined the team. My colleagues were very open and willing to explain how the company works, the project processes, and the main tasks involved. To step back and assess progress, I meet with my line manager every two weeks. We have an open and transparent relationship that allows us to talk about any difficulties or problems I may be having. I am completely confident in my manager’s willingness to support me and respond to any inquiries I might have.”
