From concept to combustion: The groundbreaking journey of a Keppel Seghers Waste-to-Energy project

Embark on a detailed exploration of the lifecycle of a Keppel Seghers waste-to-energy project, a process that’s as lengthy as it is thrilling. From global travels by our Business Development teams to the final flick of the switch, we invite you to uncover the stages that turn waste into power.
Embarking on a waste-to-energy project is a fascinating journey that spans a considerable length of time. It all starts with our Business Development (BD) team, who globetrot to showcase the potential of waste-to-energy technology at various conferences, represent Keppel Seghers at trade fairs, and engage with potential clients and partners in pursuit of promising projects.
The moment a project is recognized as feasible and promising, we dive into the competitive bidding process, aiming to clinch the project by offering a solution that’s not only technically sound but also economically beneficial, often in partnership with local entities.
It’s during the proposal phase that the real groundwork begins. Our dedicated proposal team meticulously plans out the plant’s design and works out the investment and operational costs involved.
Should Keppel Seghers emerge victorious in the technical, commercial, and contractual discussions, we move forward with the contract signing.

From there, a specially chosen project team steps in to drive the project towards success. This team is a diverse mix of professionals, including a Project Manager , Project Engineer, Process Engineers, Mechanical Designers, Procurement, Quality Assurance, E&I, and Automation Engineers.
With the team in place, the engineering phase kicks off, leading to the procurement and dispatch of equipment to the site.
Then comes the erection phase, typically executed by our partner but with our support. After the plant’s assembly, it undergoes rigorous testing prior to being handed over to the operator.
During the commissioning phase, we meticulously assess all the plant’s parameters and performance levels.
Once commissioning wraps up, the plant begins its commercial operations, now under the operator’s management. Even though the client is the new owner, Keppel Seghers is committed to correcting any defects during the guarantee phase, which usually spans two years.
Beyond this, Keppel Seghers doesn’t step away; we actively engage in the operation and maintenance of the plants. This involvement allows us to gather operational insights, which are invaluable for enhancing plant designs and optimising processes in the future.
